# Khmer speech-to-text gets usable on commodity hardware

Word error rates on conversational Khmer are down again. We ran the two open models against our own call recordings.

_By Flexitech Digest · 6 Sep 2026_

## What to know

- Word error rates on clean conversational Khmer are now low enough for search and indexing.
- Not yet low enough for unattended transcription.
- Both open models run on commodity hardware.

We tested both open Khmer speech models against a set of our own support calls. Word error rates on clean audio are now low enough for search and indexing, though not yet for unattended transcription.
